Cowpet Bay 4 7/8"H X 10 1/8" W $300 Unframed
I met Bonnie in Santa Rosa, CA, after I worked with her about a Solatube for her home (www.naturalight.org). We got to talking about her art, one thing led to another, and here she is!
Bonnie is a gentle, soft-spoken, lovely woman with a husband and five children. In viewing her work, I mentioned how sweet this next piece is...and was very moved to learn that it is of her grandchild, who passed away at six years old from a disease known as Rhabdomyosarcoma - cancer of the striated muscle. This work is of him asleep in the hospital.
Alaric Asleep Unframed Original 8 1/4"H X 5 1/4"W $250... Framed Giclee Print $450 25" H X 19" W
Bonnie has five other grandchildren as well. Alaric was the oldest. She told me that although the loss is tragic beyond words, Alaric was such a profound teacher in everyone's life he touched. A child full of life, and very wise. She feels he was such a gift.
She also mentioned that all the children at the hospital are full of play and of the experience of being children right up until the very end. What a lesson for all of us.
Her art mirrors the soft, gentle nature of this woman. She loves to work with whatever she has available on hand. This can be conte crayons, pastels (oil and chalk), colored pencils and sticks, watercolor, acrylic paint, drawing pencils, and/or graphite sticks.
Please scroll down and see the tenderness and delicate portrayal of what Bonnie sees around her wherever she is. A world traveler, her next trip is to Peru, and I look forward to seeing what Bonnie's future pieces are for the Gallery of Friends. Stay tuned! ~Kathy~

I began painting in New York City while attending New York University and Hunter College, and earned degrees in Art and French before completing the Sonoma State University Teaching Credential Program. I taught school from 1993-2005 and am now a full time artist.
I’ve had exhibitions of my work in New York, California (Sacramento, San Francisco, Napa, Healdsburg, Santa Rosa, and Petaluma), and most recently Taos, New Mexico. I’ve participated in ARTrails, Art for Life (Face to Face annual art auction,) and the Sonoma State University Alumni “Art from the Heart” annual benefit auction. Awards and honors include the New York City Hunter College Student Collection, the California State Fair, and I am a Santa Rosa Artrium Winner.
My ideas come from life: the natural world, people, dreams, travel (recently to Israel and Greece—my next trip will be to Peru,) other artists, and the underlying spirituality present in all things. I look at something small to try to understand the big pictures, the meaning.
Through working with this limited view, I can see the way things fit together -lines, colors, and textures, disparate elements harmonizing together. This is my goal.
I get there by a fairly messy process of trial and error. One thing I love about art is that it’s always possible to start over. The paper can be painted over, erased, even sanded. The mixed media process is very spontaneous. It’s fun.
On a good day, it’s an experience that I can enter into wholeheartedly, with self forgetfulness. The painting wants to be something and always turns out differently from my initial imagining.
